The question of whether Islamic clothes are too conservative or not is being hotly debated in the western world. One section of the population feels that these clothes represent the cultural heritage of the wearers and are a means of expressing ethnic and religious identity. They say that in situations where people are in foreign countries, clothes are a way of maintaining a distinct identity amongst the natives of that country. The other section of the population says that even modern Muslim clothes are not to be worn too often because these clothes stand for a way of life that is not compatible with some of the tenets that are held to be sacrosanct in the western world.
